This paper investigates the reliability of a k-out-of-n repairable system with a single server, offers service to external customers by using idle time. Both external and internal services are regulated by an N policy. When the number of failed system components is less than N and the system is free from external failed components, the server goes on multiple vacations. The failure times of the system’s components and the arrival rate of externally failed customers follow an exponential distribution. We use the Matrix Analytic Method to discuss system stability and steady-state distributions. The N-policy level is numerically optimized using an appropriate cost function.
